Studies in the Loch Ness Monster

Is something out there in the water? In October 2018, I set out to learn more about our Scottish friend Nessie– what she is, might be, or has been mistaken as.

I began with an illustrated poster exploring real creatures that could possibly explain the monster myths. Next, I designed a hoax-focused social media app for Nessie fans and “hunters,” exploring the famous ways people have falsified sightings throughout history and allowing users to participate in this long history of hoaxes. The final piece of this project was a full history of the monster, or things people have seen in the lake: a moving infographic tracking all recorded sightings, photographs, and video recordings of Nessie or her lookalikes, from 565 AD to 2018.
